OZFM’s All-Access Rock Trip to Guns N’ Roses!
Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal rolled out the red carpet for OZFM’s winners (Violet Ryan of St. John’s & her 3 guests) in Halifax!
Meeting us at the venue carrying VIP passes for everyone, Bumblefoot led us backstage for a 1-on-1 guitar lesson for Violet’s husband, Bill – which was originally planned for about 30 minutes, but easily stretched to nearly 90 minutes, with Bill borrowing Bumblefoot’s acoustic guitar (used onstage with GN’R every night)!
Next came a tour of the entire stage, where Violet was excited to touch Axl’s piano, and her son (a young drummer) took his turn behind the drum kit.

And how did Violet enjoy the concert?
“It was the best concert I’ve ever seen,” she posted on OZFM’s Facebook. “The crowd was so into it. They sounded fantastic, looked fantastic, the light show was amazing, and Bubbles singing with GN’R was wicked.” (Trailer Park Boys’ Bubbles led GN’R in a rendition of “Liquor and Whores” alongside several TPB castmates, including Ricky, Julian, J-Roc, and Mr. Lahey!)
From Violet: “For all you GN’R fans out there… I lived the dream and loved every minute of it. I met the crew, lighting, and sound guys. Bumblefoot introduced us to everyone who was there, took us up onstage, showed us what it’s like to stand on a stage and look out at the stadium…
“The band treated my son so well. They gave him arm bands that only Frank the drummer wears, and they let him sit at Frank’s drum kit and actually test out the kit, and they made sure that he had the set list at the end of the show. Bumblefoot made our stay with him so comfortable and relaxed… I thought we would all be nervous, but it was so laid back and relaxing in his dressing room. His wife was just as nice to us, they both are beautiful people. OZFM, thank you for this contest. Bill loved the guitar lesson, he hasn’t stopped smiling since. Ron is a wonderful teacher, Bill learned more in that lesson than he did in the past year… I have so many stories, lol!”
