CTV Olympic Celebration featuring Sam Roberts Band and Joel Plaskett & The Emergency
The Olympic spirit is building in St. John’s ahead of the CTV Olympic Celebration event! Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium announced today that all 5,836 free concert tickets for the CTV Olympic Celebration concert at Mile One Centre on Friday, Feb. 26 featuring Joel Plaskett & The Emergency, along with headliner Sam Roberts Band, have been claimed. While the concert portion of the event has reached capacity, individuals who do not have a ticket for the live performances can still enjoy plenty of great FREE activities at both the St. John’s Convention Centre and Mile One Centre on the day of the event.
Activities at the St. John’s Convention Centre will be open free to the public from 1 p.m. to 12 midnight NST. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. NST, the St. John’s Convention Centre will have a live feed of the concerts from Mile One Centre as well as a live broadcast of the men’s semi-final hockey game. Later on in the evening, there will also be a broadcast of the Newfoundland and Labrador Victory Celebration Showcase, live from Vancouver.
A ticket is not required for any of the activities at the St. John’s Convention Centre.
Among the free activities available at the St. John’s CTV Olympic Celebration event include the Olympic Winter Gaming Zone, The Globe and Mail Front Page Photo Area, the Suncor Energy Curling Rink, the Olympic Winter Games Theatre, the RBC Olympic Ice Hockey Shootout, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Canadian Olympic Exhibition and Bell Aliant Leave Your Mark Canada where individuals can help take part in creating a Canadian flag by dipping their thumb in red ink and placing it on the flag. The Celebrations will also include the Olympic and Paralympic Athlete Celebration Tent where attendees will have the opportunity to sign a giant thank you card for Canada’s 2010 Olympians and Paralympians.
Mile One Centre will be open to the public – no ticket required – from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. NST. During that time, individuals will be able to view CTV’s live Olympic Games coverage on the giant video screens as well as participate in the interactive sports activity zones.
Beginning at 7:30 p.m. NST, tickets are required for those individuals wishing to attend the performances from Joel Plaskett & The Emergency and Sam Roberts Band at Mile One Centre, but St. John’s Convention Centre will still be open to the public with no tickets required.
Free tickets to attend the concert portion of the CTV Olympic Celebration were made available to the general public on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 12 noon NST. All 5,836 tickets were claimed within five hours.
A free one-day festival-style event, CTV Olympic Celebration is a five-city event featuring live performances from some of Canada’s top musical acts, interactive Olympic- and Paralympic-themed sport zones, entertainment activities, cultural pavilions and large video screens showcasing CTV’s and RDS’s live coverage of the 2010 Winter Games. In addition to St. John’s, the CTV Olympic Celebration will be held in Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto and Quebec City, where the event is called Célébrations Olympiques RDS. This marks the first time a cross-country Olympic-themed festival-style event has been organized in Canada in celebration of the Olympic Games.
